The International Sailing Academy would like to thank Randy (and Yemaya), Andy & Bill on the Race Committee, along with Kevin and Harry on markset from the Vallarta Yacht Club. We’d also like to thank our sponsor, Todo Vela Mexico (the Mexican Masters) who provided marks and a markset boat for the event!
The 2013 Mexican Masters has ended after 3 days of great Laser racing on Banderas Bay. The win was tightly contested throughout the regatta with the leaders switching places in each race. Congratulations to JB Duler who took the win by 2 points!
Day 1 set up to be a great day of racing. Though we initially had a humpback whale hanging in our start line, the 1st race went off on time in 10 knots of breeze. The day saw a persistent left shift which was very advantageous to play. JB Duler was leading after day 1, followed closely by Max Hunt (GBR) who was in second place by only 1 point!
Day 2 gave us some champagne sailing conditions in Banderas Bay. Again, the start was on time and the competitors enjoyed some wind was between 12-18 knots. The Lasers were joined by a dozen kiteboarders who were enjoying the conditions near the racecourse.
Day 3 started with strong easterlies and hot temperatures which was a good sign for some strong breeze. We did 3 races in 18 knots and a very steady breeze. Max Hunt was close and often leading the races, but JB was able to sneak by and secure his lead after 2 races. The third race was the windiest with gusts up to 22 knots. Everyone went home nice and tired!
Congratulations to JB Duler for 1st place! We enjoyed a great awards evening with dancing and a fire show.
Join us next year for some great racing!
